CLEVELAND, Nov. 27, 2019Ohio-based oil analysis\ncompany TestOil announced Nov. 25 a new test to determine the biodiesel content\nin conventional diesel fuel. The test was developed in response to requests by\nindustrial customers needing to ensure the fuel they use meets OEM requirements\nfor biodiesel content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\nhave received inquiries from customers asking if we had the capability to test\nfor biodiesel content,\u201d said Monika Malcolm, TestOil\u2019s analytical services\nmanager. \u201cThe need is definitely there, but there was almost no one to meet it.\nOur new test is excellent for industrial applications such as generators,\ntrucks and other mobile equipment including forklifts, bulldozers and mining\nmachinery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
TestOil notes that the addition of biodiesel to\nconventional diesel fuel is becoming more and more common. Benefits include\nincreased lubricity, reduction of harmful emissions and sustainability.\nUnintended consequences may arise, however, if the blend exceeds the labeled\namount or OEM recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBiodiesel\nblends very easily and completely with conventional diesel,\u201d the company\nstated. \u201cBecause of this, it is impossible to tell by observation how much\nbiodiesel the fuel contains. The only way to verify biodiesel content is\nthrough laboratory analysis. Although the demand for this testing is high, at\npresent, very few labs offer this service.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mary\nMessuti, TestOil\u2019s chief operating officer, said, \u201cBeing able to verify the\namount of biodiesel in a fuel blend is one more way we meet the needs of our\ncustomers. We always have an ear to the ground so that we can respond quickly\nto their needs. While we don\u2019t always have an immediate solution, we take any\nrequest as a challenge to investigate a way to meet it. This new biodiesel test\nis a prime example of that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Biodiesel\ncontent test results are available the same day the sample is received. In\naddition, customers may ask for additional tests on water content and bacteria\ncount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
