CLEVELAND Feb. 6, 2020 \u00a0TestOil<\/strong><\/a>, one of the leading oil sample testing labs, credits its rapid growth and outstanding reputation to its disciplined Lean strategy initiative.
The Lean methodology, about continuously improving work processes, purposes and people, is based on three principles:
1. Deliver value from the customers\u2019 perspective.
2. Eliminate anything that doesn\u2019t add value to the offering.
3. Strive for continuous improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TestOil applies Lean to both\nbusiness and production processes.
\n
\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Mary Messuti made the\nLean initiative a priority at TestOil. \u201cOne of TestOil\u2019s core values is\ncontinuous improvement and learning,\u201d she said. \u201cIt has always been in our\nculture.\u201d
\n                Jill Furgason is TestOil\u2019s\nDirector of Shared Services and Lean Initiatives. \u201cPeople righty expect\neverything to be delivered immediately, accurately and at the lowest price,\u201d\nshe said. \u201cSo one of the processes we took a look at was how we could quickly\nand accurately get reports to our customers.\u201d
\n                Furgason added that, as\nfar as she knows, TestOil is the only oil analysis lab in the area that\nincorporates Lean.
\nOne of TestOil\u2019s initiatives was instituting Lean\u2019s OEE (overall equipment\neffectiveness)--to ensure that machines continuously perform at a Best Practice\nlevel and that the availability of equipment is consistent with customer needs.\nTo that end, TestOil created an OEE dashboard for six of their most frequently\nrun tests.
\n                \u201cBased on what we learned,\nwe have been able to design experiments to identify the most frequently\noccurring issues that have the most impact,\u201d Furgason said. \u201cWe wanted to make\neverything visible so that we could address any outliers quickly.\u201d
\n                Lean encourages\nparticipants to share with one another. Because TestOil is part of a Lean\nconsortium through AME (Association for Manufacturing Excellence), they share\nwith the Lean community. TestOil is willing to share the intellectual concept\nof the OEE dashboard they developed in house with other organizations.
\n                \u201cLean has allowed us to\nscale easily,\u201d Furgason said. \u201cAs we evaluate new test offerings, Lean gives us\na systematic approach to investigate new methods and how to quickly get them to\nmarket. We are continuously identifying and working on the areas that will\nprovide the most value to our customers.\u201d
\n                Messuti, Furgason, and\nTestOil\u2019s Lab Manager, Riley Johns are Lean\/Six Sigma Certified. All three are\nactively working on Black Belt certification.
